BGB chief: Thakurgaon incident unwarranted

Maj Gen Md Shafeenul Islam met with BGB, police and administration officials as well as local public representatives in Thakurgaon on Monday

The director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has visited Thakurgaon in the aftermath of a clash between villagers and a BGB team that left three villagers dead.

DG Maj Gen Md Shafeenul Islam visited Thakurgaon town on Monday, and met with BGB, police and administration officials as well as local public representatives at the Circuit House.

After the meeting he spoke to the press.

He said that the incident in Baharampur village in Thakrugaon’s Haripur on February 12, in which three people were killed, was unwarranted.

“A high powered five-member committee led by a BGB deputy director has been constituted to look into it. Based on this report, action will be taken against anyone responsible,” he said.

He urged everyone for their cooperation in protecting the country’s borders.
