Suspected robber killed in Jessore 'gunfight'

Police have recovered a one-shooter gun, one round of bullets, two local weapons, a chainsaw and rope from the spot

A suspected robber has been killed in a reported gunfight between two gangs of robbers in Jessore.

The incident took place in the Rahmatpur Kanagate area of Jessore Sadar upazila around 3:30am on Wednesday.

Police have yet to determine the identity of the deceased. However they believe he was around 30 years of age. 

Jessore Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Apurbo Hasan said: "We conducted a raid when we got information that there was a shootout in the area."

Sensing the presence of the police, the miscreants managed to escape. The law enforcers found an unidentified bullet-riddled body on the ground and sent it to Jessore General Hospital.

He further said police have recovered a one-shooter gun, one round of bullets, two local weapons, a chainsaw and rope from the spot.

"Preparations for filing a case regarding the matter is underway," the OC added.
