The police has detained three people, including the man’s family members, over the incident
An elderly man has been allegedly stabbed to death by his grandson in Khoksa upazila of Kushtia.
The incident took place in Santoshpur village of the upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Mojibor Rahman, 70, son of the late Gosai mandal of the area.
Following the incident, police detained three people; including the deceased’s grandson Nayem, 21, and the deceased’s daughter-in-law, Samia.
Khoksa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) ABM Mehedi Masud said: “Mojibur’s grandson Nayem—the son of Mujibur’s eldest daughter—had been engaged in an extramarital affair with Samia, the wife of Mojibur’s middle son Masud, reportedly for a long time. On Sunday night, Nayem returned home from Dhaka and tried to become intimate with Samia in his uncle’s absence.”
“Mojibor Rahman accidentally found out about the affair and confronted Nayem. They had a heated altercation. At one point, Nayem stabbed Mujibor with a knife and fled the scene,” he said.
“Later Mujibur was taken to Khoksa Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.”
Acting on information, police detained the accused Nayem and two others. The body was sent to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy. A case is being filed over the matter, added the OC.
