Earlier on January 14, another member of the party’s youth wing Juba Samity, had been shot dead in Khagrachhari’s Ramgarh upazila
An activist of the Jana Samhati Samity (MN Larma), an ethnic community-based political party, has been shot dead in Khagrachhari’s Panchhari upazila.
The deceased Roni Tripura was shot by unknown miscreants on Thursday evening, in front of the Shuktara Residential Boarding.
Panchhari police station OC (Investigation) Dulal Hossain confirmed the killing and said: “Unknown miscreants shot him in front of the Shuktara Boarding and fled. He died while undergoing treatment at the Panchhari Upazila Health Complex.”
“He had been staying at the boarding with other party members for a while,” he added.
Sudhakar Tripura, the central Information Secretary of JSS MN Larma group, alleged that their opposition United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF Prasit group) was responsible for the murder.
However, UPDF Prasit group Publicity Secretary Niron Chakma dismissed the allegations.
Earlier on January 14, another member of the party’s youth wing Juba Samity, was shot dead in Khagrachhari’s Ramgarh upazila.
Since May 2018, activists of JSS MN Larma group, and their opposition United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF Prasit group) moved to Shuktara Residential Boarding.
Since then, complaints were reported against UPDF, oppressing locals to boycott the Panchhari market. The situation has not improved to date.
Violence among the ethnic community-based political groups in the three hill districts has gone up dramatically in the last year. In 2018, 22 people were killed in Rangamati alone.
