Local education office has formed a four-member probe committee to look into the matter
The headmaster of a high school in Tangail has been served with a show-cause notice by the local education office over the allegations of feeding the school’s Hindu students beef without their knowledge.
The Bhuapur Upazila Secondary Education Office issued the notice on Monday.
A four-member committee has also been formed, to be headed by Bhuapur Secondary Education Officer Shahinur Islam, to look into the matter.
The committee is required to submit a report within a week, Shahinur Islam said.
Jafar Iqbal, headmaster of Falda Ramsundar Union High School in Tangail’s Bhuapur upazila, has responded to the notice in a written format, sources at the education office said.

On January 26, Falda Ramsundar Union High School took its students on a picnic to Gazipur. For lunch, they were served beef. There were 22 Hindu students in the group who had not been told that they were served beef, and found out what had happened later.
In Hindu religion, eating beef is prohibited.
The Hindu students complained about the matter to Headmaster Jafar Iqbal, but he dismissed their concerns and said eating beef one day would not damn them.
When word spread about the matter, locals including other students and the parents of the Hindu students staged a protest outside the school on January 28. The students boycotted school as well.
The headmaster remained unreachable when the Dhaka Tribune attempted to get a comment.
