3 cops, ‘drug peddler’ injured in Pabna ‘gunfight’

Three members of the police have been injured in a “gunfight” in Pabna Medical College area.

Pabna Sadar police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Nuruzzaman, SI Shahid Akhter and Constable Shahadat Hossain were injured in a reported gunfight which took place early on Monday. 

Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Gautam Kumar Biswas said: “Acting on a tip-off, we went to the area to catch the drug peddler. Upon seeing us, they opened fire on us.

“In retaliation, we fired back; that left one of the drug traders injured.”

Meanwhile, three members of the police were also injured in the “gunfight.” 

Later, police detained Apil Sheikh, in an injured condition. He has been admitted to Pabna Sadar Hospital along with the three policemen.

Gautam said: “We found: a pistol, a magazine, eight rounds of bullets, four shotgun shells, one knife, and five grams of heroin at the site.

“Apil is a known drug dealer in the area. There are nine drug-related cases filed against him with Pabna Sadar police station.”
