Cancer survivors recount their stories on World Cancer Day

Their stories of fighting the disease inspired the audience, leaving some of them in tears

Thirty cancer survivors at United Hospital told their stories to mark World Cancer Day on Sunday. 

Professor of Zoology, Gulnahar, spoke about her struggles in overcoming breast cancer diagnosed four years ago. 

The patient forum was organized by United Hospital with an uplifting theme of “I am & I will,” said a press release.

A young doctor, Sazeeda Bari, said Gulnahar approached her diagnosis boldly with the help of her doctors at United. An expat patient, Leela Rawat, also expressed her confidence in the care and treatment at the hospital. 

Their stories of fighting the disease inspired the audience, leaving some of them in tears. 

Chief guest at the program, Architect Mubasshar Hussein, congratulated all the survivors on winning their battle with cancer. 

Consultants of United Hospital Cancer Centre, Dr Ashim Kumar Sen Gupta, Dr Rashid un Nabi, and Dr Saumen Basu, pledged they will do everything they can for their patients. 

Dr Ashim Kumar Sen Gupta said: “Never feel you are alone. You are not alone anymore. We are always with you.”

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of United Hospital, Faizur Rahman, talked about the hospital’s efforts in providing the best possible care for cancer patients. 

He said the hospital provides cost effective radiation schemes with a 50% discount where the therapy can be completed for just Tk70,000.

The program was conducted by Dr Shagufa Anwar, chief of Communication and Business Development, United Hospital, who said the hospital has arranged programs all week to mark World Cancer Day.
