Worker killed in Sylhet stone quarry accident

The incident took place in Jumpara, Jaflong around 11pm on Wednesday

A worker has been killed after being crushed by a payloader machine at a stone quarry in Sylhet’s Jaflong. 

The incident took place in Jumpara, Jaflong around 11pm on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Shahid Mandal, 30, son of Malek Mandal of Rajbari.

According to local sources, the owners of the quarry—Hossain Hazi and Rubel Mia—were digging in up earth and collecting stones using a payloader machine, at night. Shahid was working there at the time and was severely injured after being hit by the payloader machine. He died while being taken to hospital. 

Confirming the matter, Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC, Probe) Hillol Roy said, acting on information, policemen visited the spot. The worker’s body has been recovered and is being kept at the station.

Legal action is being taken in this regard, the OC added.
