A plaintiff’s house, whose son was falsely accused of theft and subjected to barbaric torture in Rajshahi in 2015, has been set on fire in the Paba Upazila of Rajshahi.
The plaintiff, Imran Ali, claimed that those who tortured his son Zihad were behind the arson. "It was an attempt to kill my family," he said.
"They [the accused] have been threatening me to withdraw the case I filed against 13 men over the 2015 incident," Imran said.
"They doused our house in petrol and set it on fire," he said. "We survived but our livestock have perished."
He suffered minor burn injuries while trying to save his livestock. He was treated at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Rezaul Hasan, Paba Police Station in-charge said they had visited the spot and assured the victims of taking necessary legal measures after investigation.
In 2015, about 13 men falsely accused Zihad of stealing and had ruthlessly tortured him over the matter.
Later, Imran filed a case with the Paba police over the incident.
