UPDF has accused JSS Larma faction for the incident
A United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) leader has been killed by unidentified gunmen in Rangamati.
The incident took place around 2pm on Tuesday at Rangapani Chara area of Langdu upazila in Rangamati district.
The deceased was identified as Pabitra Chakma, 39.
Confirming the incident to the Dhaka Tribune, Langdu police station Officer-in-Charge Ranjan Kumar Samanta said: "We are on our way to the crime scene. Details regarding the incident will be provided very soon."
According to locals, UPDF leader Pabitra Chakma was chatting with one of his friends in his house when a group of armed assailants entered and shot him. His associates were able to escape, but he died on the spot.
UPDF has accused JSS Larma faction for the incident.
However, denying the accusation, JSS Larma faction Central Committee Publicity and Publication Secretary Sudhakar Tripura said: "We have nothing to do with this killing. UPDF’s blaming us for this is driven by ill political motivation."
Meanwhile, Chandraghona police arrested one person with a gun and two bullets in a drive at Vallukia area of Raikhali union in Rangamati.
The arrested man was identified as Subimal Tanachonga, 50.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Chandraghona police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammed Ashraf Uddin said: "We are preparing to file a case against him. Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation."
