Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two suspected members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Rangpur.
They were picked up by RAB members from Pirjabad area of the city Friday evening.
The detainees are Md Azizul Islam Salehi, 30, hailing from Panihara village in Panchagarh Sadar upazila, and Md Shahnewaz Islam Nishat, 26, of Pirjabad in Rangpur Sadar upazila.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Rangpur RAB 13 Assistant Superintendent of Police (media wing) Ahsan Habib said: “Acting on a tip-off, a special team of ours conducted a drive in Pirjabad area and detained the two with many Jihadi books and leaflets in their possession.”
“During initial interrogation, the two confessed to collecting funds and subscriptions from people in the area with a view to reinforce the organization. They were also involved in preserving members’ database, training, planning, and various subversive activities,” he said.
The process of taking legal action against the detainees is underway, the ASP added.
