They had an argument over snack price

A Jubo League leader has been stabbed to death by a street food vendor following an argument over the price of snacks in Jessore.

The incident took place at Abhaynagar upazila’s Masharhati village on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased was Zahidul Islam Kha, 35, of the same village. He was a member of Noapara  Municipality Ward 2 Jubo League.

Locals later beat up the vendor, Imran Sheikh, 25, from Narail, and handed him over to the police.

Zahidul’s brother Wahidul Islam Kha said: “My brother was working at M/S Joint Trading, located at Bhairab River Ghat. At one point, he went out to buy some snacks from the street vendor.

“Both were arguing over the price of the snack when suddenly, Imran with his knife stabbed Zahidul on the left side of his chest.”

Zahidul died while being taken to the Upazila Health Complex.

Imran was also admitted to the hospital in a critical condition, after receiving a beating from the mob.

Abhaynagar police station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain confirmed the news.

He said: “The two were arguing over the price of snacks, at one point Zahidul beat Imran. In retaliation, Imran stabbed Zahidul with his knife, which caused the death of the Jubo League leader.”

“Zahidul’s body was sent to Jessore General Hospital morgue for an autopsy,” the OC said.
