The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested an Ansar official in Nilphamari on Thursday on corruption charges.
The detainee, Ashikur Rahman, is the district’s commandant for the paramilitary force, sources said.
According to local Ansar sources, Ashikur was previously posted in Bandarban as the captain of 17 Battalion, where the ACC conducted an investigation on tender irregularities.
During the investigation, the ACC found evidence of Ashikur’s involvement in the irregularities, and issued an arrest warrant against him.
When contacted, Nilphamari Sadar upazila Ansar Commandant Md Musa Chowdhury declined to comment on the issue, or disclose any information regarding Ashikur’s replacement.
