Three students in connection with the attack have been arrested
Students of Syed Nazrul Islam College in Mymensingh have vandalized a police station in the city, retaliating to the physical assault of one of the college teachers by a police constable.
The incident took place on Wednesday, and police have arrested three students in this regard, reported UNB.
Speaking to reporters, Mansur Ahmed, OC of Mymensingh Kotwali Model police station, said Sharif Ahmed, English lecturer at Syed Nazrul Islam College, was stopped by Constable Aslam Hossain of the police station at Town Hall roundabout in the city for hitting a CNG-run autorickshaw by his car.
“There was a heated exchange between the two, which led to physical scuffle at one point,” the OC told UNB.
As word spread about the altercation, students of the college put up a barricade at the Town Hall roundabout and brought out a procession in protest of the scuffle.
They also attacked the police station and vandalized its windowpanes, and hurled brickbats at police members, witnesses said.
Later, police fired four rounds of bullets to disperse them, and arrested three protesters.
