The fire was ignited at the loom section of the mill around 5.00am and spread soon, said Abdul Hamid, deputy director of Sirajganj Fire Service

Around 6,00 bales of jute worth about Tk1.45 crore were gutted in the fire that broke out at National Jute Mill at Raipur in Sadar upazila on Wednesday.

The fire was ignited at the loom section of the mill around 5.00am and spread soon, said Abdul Hamid, deputy director of Sirajganj Fire Service.

On information, five firefighting units went to the spot and extinguished the blaze after four hours of frantic effort.

The mills authorities suspected that the fire might have been originated from electric short circuit.

Aminul Islam, deputy general manager of the National Jute Mill said, "We are guessing the fire ensued from a short circuit. Five units of the fire service, after four hours, managed to extinguish the fire."

The extent of losses caused by the fire could go up to Tk1.45crore, said Aminul.
