Tipu Munshi: Plans to expand apparel industries in northern regions

The minister also said that necessary initiatives will be taken to establish agriculture based industries, agricultural research institutes as well as hi-tech parks in the region

The newly-appointed Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Friday said that importance will be given to the expansion of apparel industries in northern regions of Bangladesh.

He made the remark while talking to reporters, after a reception organized in his honour at Tepamadhupur Girls High School premises, in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur. 

He said: “Arrangements have been made to supply gas in the northern regions, which will facilitate the expansion of the garment industries. This in turn will create massive employment opportunities in the region.”

The minister also said that necessary initiatives will be taken to establish agriculture based industries, agricultural research institutes as well as hi-tech parks in the region.

Specified development plans for Rangpur and the northern regions will be announced within the next three months, he added.

Helater visited the Pirgachha and Kaunia upazilas in the Rangpur 4 constituency, conducting post-election meetings and addressing street rallies in various unions for the first time since he became minister.
