Commerce minister: Govt will ensure fair prices for agricultural products

'We have adopted modern technology in coordinated a way, to improve management of the rural haats and bazaars'

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said the government will take steps to ensure fair prices for agricultural products grown by farmers across the country.

“To make agriculture more profitable for farmers and ensure their welfare, special initiatives will be taken to improve the market management system and enhance facilities for preservation and marketing of agricultural products,” he said.

Tipu made the comments while addressing a function at the Rahamoter Char Dakhil Madrasha ground in Tambulpur union of Pirgachha upazila as the chief guest on Thursday evening.

The commerce minister attended the function after conducting post-election meetings and addressing street rallies in various unions of Pirgachha upazila for the first time since he became minister.

Tipu expressed his gratitude to the people of the upazila for electing him as the MP from Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kawnia) constituency for the third consecutive time. 

The minister also said he would take all necessary steps to free Pirgachha upazila, his birthplace, from the grip of drugs, militancy, terrorism, child marriage and other “social curses” while also taking development initiatives to turn it into a model upazila.

“We have implemented a number of projects and undertaken some others, including the nationalization of a high school and a college, and improving the rural communication networks by building bridges and culverts in the upazila,” he said.

Tipu added that various income generation projects have been implemented to facilitate self-employment for both male and female unemployed locals.

“We have adopted modern technology in coordinated a way, to improve management of the rural haats and bazaars, and the construction, repair and renovation of l infrastructure in the upazila,” the commerce minister said.

President of Pirgachha upazila Awami League Abdul Hakim Sarder, General Secretary Abdullah Al Milan, former Pirgachha upazila Chairman Abu Naser Shah Md Mahbubar Rahman, Tambulpur union Chairman Rawshan Jamir Rabu Sarder, President of Tambulpur union Awami League Deb Kumar Debu, General Secretary Shahin Sarder were in attendance.
