9 accused in murder case in Lalmonirhat

Nine individuals including Rajpur union parishad chairman and eight others have been named accused in the murder case of Tojammel Hossain

In a case filed over the murder of a senior citizen, nine individuals have been named accused including the Rajpur Union Parishad (UP) chairman, in Lalmonirhat.

The accused have been identified as: Rajpur UP Chairman Mofazzal Hossain, Mozammel Hossain, Angur Miah, Lebu Miah, Siddique Ali, Shahin, Mohasin Ali, Jahangir Alam and Moji.

On January 1, the deceased Tojammel Hossain’s son Md Mostafa filed a case accusing nine suspects, over the murder at the Lalmonirhat Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.

As the per the case statement, Tojammel Hossain, 56, was stabbed with sharp weapon while  he was on his way to vote in the Paglaghat Government Primary School polling centre, by the accused Mofazzal Hossain and his men, on December 30 around 8am.

He was then rescued and taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Confirming the matter, Lalmonirhat Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Mahfuz Anam said: “The case is being further investigated, while the arrest for the suspects is underway.”

Meanwhile, the accused UP chairman along with other members accused in the case are on the run, which is why police have not yet arrested anyone, he added.

Family members of the victim and the district commissioner have expressed their demand of proper justice over the murder of Tojammel Hossain.
