Ramgarh Police Officer-in-Charge Tarek Md Abdul Hannan confirmed the incident
An activist of Jana Samhati Samity (MN Larma), an ethnic community-based political party, has been shot dead in Khagrachhari’s Ramgarh upazila.
Mohan Tripura, a member of the party’s youth wing Juba Samity, was killed around 7:30pm Monday in the upazila’s Jagannathpara area.
Police, citing local witnesses, said Mohan was visiting his friend Prodesh Tripura in Jagannathpara when several unidentified men rushed in and shot him.
Mohan died on the spot. Ramgarh Police Officer-in-Charge Tarek Md Abdul Hannan confirmed the incident.
Sudhakar Tripura, the central Information Seceretary of JSS MN Larma, alleged that United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF Prasit group) was responsible for the murder.
“They are the dominant political group in that area,” he said.
UPDF Prasit group Publicity Secretary Niron Chakma dismissed the allegations and said Mohan was likely killed by his own party men due to internal power struggles.
Violence among the ethnic community-based political groups in the three hill districts has gone up dramatically in the last year. In 2018, 22 people were killed in Rangamati alone.
