Readymade Garments (RMG) workers have blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway as rumour spread about the death of a fellow worker in a road accident.

The protesters blocked the highway near savar’s Aminbazar area from 8:30am to 11am on Monday.

A rumour spread that a female worker of Brando Eco Apparels died when a bus carrying RMG workers and a City Corporation truck collided near Shaleipur bus stand.

Savar model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Awwal confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, saying: “We have dispersed the workers from the road and brought the situation under control.”

After the collision the RMG workers engaged in an argument with the City Corporation staffs. As the argument  escalated a City Corporation staff apparently hit an RMG worker with a stick.

The worker was then taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital (ShSMC), which spread the rumour of her death.
