Police and industry sources said a group of unruly workers damaged machinery at the factory while demanding a hike in salary and other facilities
At least four workers of Tex-Tech Garments Ltd, at Sharifpur road in the Gazipur City Corporation area, were injured when a group of unruly workers vandalized the factory on Monday.
Police and industry sources said a group of unruly workers damaged machinery at the factory while demanding a hike in salary and other facilities.
Gazipur Industrial police sources said the vandalism was part of a well-thought-out plot, as most of the attackers were outsiders.
Yasin Kabir, inspector of Gazipur Industrial police, said garment workers organized various protest programs under the banners of different workers' organizations in several factories on Monday, after turning down the wage rates recently fixed by the government.
However, the workers of Tex-Tech Garments Ltd had come to work and boycotted the protests by their fellow RMG workers, the police official added.
He further said the attack on the factory was launched as outsiders had become agitated by the Tex-Tech Garments Ltd workers’ refusal to join the protests.
Four workers of the factory were injured, while two vehicles and various machinery were vandalized, Yasin added.
