The student’s mother filed a case against the suspects
Two people have been arrested over the rape and 20-day confinement of a female 10th-grade madrasa student.
On Monday morning, the suspects were produced in court by police who requested a 5-day remand; following the arrest they made the previous night.
The student’s mother filed a case against the suspects—Mojibur Rahman, 42, a bus assistant, and his wife Amena Begum—on Sunday night.
The incident occurred in Dholipara village of Kalia union under Sakhipur upazila.
According to case details, Mojibur Rahman used to harass the student on her way to madrasa. On December 24, the student set off for the upazila’s Kalia bazaar and went missing.
The case details mention that Mojibur abducted the student at Kalia bazaar, and then raped her after confining her.
The student’s mother said: “As Mojibur was our neighbour, many times, he suggested that my daughter marry his expatriate son. I told him that my daughter will pursue higher education, which is why we could not accept his proposal.
“That man tortured and ruined my daughter. I demand justice for my daughter.”
The madrasa’s headmaster said: “The girl is very meritorious. As she was absent in her classes for a few days, I even asked regarding her whereabouts.
“Her mother always looked after her studies and wanted her daughter to pursue higher education.”
Sakhipur police station Officer-in-Charge Amir Hossain said: “We arrested the suspects soon after the case was filed against them.
“However, the student has not yet been rescued, although the search for her continues.”
According to the student’s family members, Mojibur raped her while keeping her in confinement, he added.
