Minister says at the end of the day, politics decides everything
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has spoken in favour of student politics in medical colleges.
She made the remark while attending the orientation program of first-year MBBS students at Chandpur Medical College (CMC) on Thursday.
At the program, in reply to CMC Principal Dr Jamal Uddin’s speech against student politics on the campus, the minister said: “If the campus is free of student politics, then how will another Dipu Moni rise? At the end of the day, politics decides everything.
“This medical college was established because of a political decision too.”
The minister also said every development comes out of political decision and nothing is outside politics, and humans are political beings as well.
Dr Moni further said: “What our principal meant is violence-free politics and campus. When I was a medical student, I was involved with Chhatra League and Shandhani Dhaka Medical College units.
“Dr Jamal has instructed not to form any political committees on the campus, which I am in favour of. He will give a date later to form the committees of political student wings on the campus.”
“Everything has to be done within the constitution, where freedom of speech and freedom of association are basic rights of a person,” the minister added.
Dipu Moni thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for establishing the CMC and all the development the country has seen in the last 10 years.
Chandpur Deputy Commissioner Md Majedur Rahman Khan, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman, and District Awami League President Nasir Uddin Ahmed were present at the program, among others.
