The man was hacked and beaten to death

An Awami Jubo League leader in Chittagong’s Patiya has been murdered on the night before the 11th general election.

Police said Din Mohammad, 35, was hacked and beaten to death on Saturday night in Kusumpur union of the upazila, which falls under Chittagong 12 constituency.

He was declared dead by doctors at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Additional Superintendent of Police Afruzul Haque Tutul also told reporters that Din Mohammad was attacked and murdered by supporters of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, reports the Bangla Tribune.

He said that police were conducting drives to catch the perpetrators.

Din Mohammad’s nephew Saifur Rahman Mamun told Bangla Tribune that five or six men, led by BNP activist Rafiq, had attacked him and his uncle in Fakira Mosque Bazar area when they were returning home.

“My uncle was critically injured from their sharp weapons. He was declared dead by the doctors when he was taken to the hospital,” Mamun said.

However, BNP candidate in Chittagong 12 Enamul Haque Enam rejected the allegation that BNP-Jamaat men were involved in the attack and subsequent murder.

“Din Mohammad died during a clash between two groups of Jubo League leaders and activists over dividing the money from the Awami League candidate,” Enam alleged.
