Bangladesh likely to experience coldwaves late December

According to the statement, parts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna may be the worst affected regions

One or two mild-to-medium cold waves may sweep over the country in late December, according to the monthly outlook of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s office.

It also reads that the temperature may plummet as low as 6°C in northern, north-eastern and central parts of the country during the period.

The Met office also forecast probable fall in night temperature, which may fall by 1-3°C, and day temperature may rise by 1-2°C across the country.

Due to cyclone Phethai, the country experienced rainfalls for the last two days.

According to the Met office, the sky will remain cloud-free and day temperature may start to fall by Wednesday.

According to the statement, parts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna may be the worst affected regions.

The north, northeast, northwest, central and river basin areas may expect heavy fog, while other areas may experience light to medium fog from late night during this period.  

Present condition of Phethai 

According to a special bulletin of the Met office, the cyclonic Storm “Phethai” now lies over northwest Bay and adjoining coastal Odisha. 

Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to maintain hoisting of local cautionary signal three as the deep depression over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining area moved north-northeastwards weakened into depression and then into a well-marked low over northwest bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas.

It is likely to move towards north-northeastern direction further and weaken gradually by precipitating, read the statement. 

Under its influence gusty/squally wind is likely to affect the maritime ports and coastal areas of Bangladesh, it read.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.

Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Sylhet and Dhaka divisions and at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions.

Night temperature may fall by 1-3°C and day temperature may rise by 1-2°C throughout the country. 

Light to moderate fog may occur at places over the country during late night to morning, it added.
