Jamalpur BNP candidate’s motorcade attacked, 8 hurt

BNP candidate Wares Ali said Awami League activists carried out the attack on his motorcade and assaulted his supporters while they were going to Kalibari Bazar for election campaign

Unidentified men vandalized an chased the motorcade of BNP candidate for Jamalpur 5 constituency, advocate Shah Md Wares Ali on Friday. 

Wares Ali later alleged that the perpetrators were men loyal to his opponent Awami League candidate Engineer Mojaffar Hossain. 

Local Chhatra Dal leader Bayezid among eight BNP leaders and activists were injured in the incident that took place around 12pm in Kendua Kalibari Bazar area. The injured men underwent treatment at a local clinic. 

Wares Ali said the assaulters carried out the attack on his motorcade they were going to Kalibari Bazar for holding election campaign. 

He also alleged that the ruling party men had been making threats and creating various hindrances against his campaign for the past few days. 

The BNP candidate also said he could not get any remedies over the matter even after filing written complaint to the district returning officer (RO).      

However, a local ruling party leader, Saidur Rahman Shelley, has rejected the allegations, claiming that the BNP candidate’s supporters are the real culprits who attacked the campaign of AL candidate in the first place.
