Seven others, including three army members, were also injured in the incident
An army personnel has been killed following a head-on collision between a bus and truck, in Saidabad area of Sirajganj district, early on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Zahidul Islam—son of Nazrul Islam— from Asan Nagar of Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga district, was a lance corporal of the Bangladesh Army.
Seven others, including three army members, were also injured in the incident. They were admitted to Sirajganj Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital.
Abdul Hamid, deputy director of Sirajganj Fire Service, said the incident took place as a northbound truck—carrying a few passengers—collided with a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction.
The collision occurred near the intersection of the main connecting road to West Resettlement Area, at Bangabandhu Bridge, leaving lance corporal Zahidul dead on the spot and seven other injured.
Fire Service members rescued the injured persons.
Bangabandhu Bridge West police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Sahid Alam said that Zahidul had been working at Rangpur cantonment and had come to Tangail’s Ghatail cantonment to go on a mission abroad. He was on a three-day leave and had been heading to his village home, in Chuadanga, from Ghatail.
The three injured army personnel are undergoing treatment at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital. Zahidul’s body will be handed over to his family members after an autopsy is performed, the OC added.
