The lawsuit follows a leaked conversation between the senior BNP leader and an ISI official that reportedly took place recently
A sedition case has been filed against BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in Comilla.
Daudkandi Upazila Parishad Chairman Maj (retd) Mohammad Ali Sumon started the case against him at the Daudkandi model police station on Wednesday, said the station’s Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain.
The case was filed in the backdrop of a leaked telephone conversation that allegedly took place recently between the senior BNP leader and an official of Pakistani spy agency Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) official named Mehmood.
The phone conversation between the duo indicated that the opposition was getting involved with the ISI to hatch some anti-state conspiracy in order to win the 11th general election, alleged plaintiff Mohammad Ali.
On Wednesday, Thailand-based online newspaper Asian Tribune had released the seven-minute conversation between Mosharraf and Mehmood – which went viral on both mass media and social networking sites soon.
The report said that the conversation made it clear that ISI was desperately working on helping BNP win the election.
In a media statement issued on Thursday, however, the BNP leader trashed the report, calling it fabricated and baseless.
Mosharraf, who is contesting from Comilla 1 and 2 constituencies, said that the conversation was being aired on purpose to tarnish his image ahead of the polls, slated for December 30.
He also denied knowing Mehmood and having any conversation with him.
