The fire broke out in the early hours of Friday, burning 15 houses and shops at Palong Uttar Bazar

At least two people have died in a fire that broke out in Shariatpur.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Friday at Palong Uttar Bazar in the district, burning 15 houses and shops.

Four units of the fire service, after trying for four hours, brought down the fire.

The fire started from Haru Ghosh Sweets’ stove, which killed two employees of another sweet store, Gopal Ghosh Sweetmeat.

The deceased were identified as Palash Boiragi, 25, son of Rabindranath Sarker of Madaripur and Bishwajit Sarker, 20, son of Rupchan Sarker. Bishwajit was a college student who joined the shop earlier this month.

Faridpur Fire Service Deputy Director Momtaz Uddin Ahmed confirmed the news.

He said: “The fire began in the early hours of Friday. Four units of the fire brigade from Shariatpur and Madaripur went to the scene and brought the fire under control.”

Palong Bazar General Secretary Abdus Salam said: “The fire has caused at least Tk10 crore worth of damages.”
