26 others have been injured in the collisions
At least eleven people were killed and many others injured in separate accidents on roads across the country on Thursday.
In Sirajganj, seven people were killed and many others injured in two separate road crashes in the district.
Two people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between two trucks at Sayedabad in Sadar upazila in the early morning.
The deceased were identified as drivers Morshedul Islam, 28, from Monirampur upazila of Jessore, and Arif Hossain, 22, from Shibganj upazila of Bogra.
The injured assistants of both trucks were admitted to Sirajganj Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital.
They are Jahangir Hossain, 40, from Monirampur upazila of Jessore, and Ujjal Mohonto, 35, from Shibganj upazila of Bogra.
Bangabandhu Bridge West police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Shahid Alam confirmed the incident, adding that one of trucks was laden with paddy.
The drivers of both trucks died on the spot.
On the other hand, five women were killed and 23 others injured in a collision between three vehicles on the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge, at Kodda intersection in Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Ayesha Khatun, 30, Shirin Begum, 55, Rehana Begum, 40, and her daughters Romana Khatun, 16, and Rhidi Khatun, 14.
Bangabandhu Bridge West police station Officer-in-Charge Syed Shahid Alam said: “A Dhaka-bound Alif Paribahan bus hit another bus after its driver lost control over the vehicle. Meanwhile, another speeding truck coming from the opposite direction crashed into the two buses around 11:30am, leaving five people dead on the spot and 23 others injured.”
The injured were taken to a local hospital.
In Pabna, a woman and her daughter were killed, and another injured, when a trolley hit a cycle van that was transporting them at Char Bangania in Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rini Khatun, 35, and her daughter Barsha, 7, from Hemayatpur union of Char Bangania village.
Pabna Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Obaidul Haque said the accident took place around 9am, when the brick-laden trolley hit the cycle van. The mother and daughter died on the spot, and van-puller Akbar was injured.
Akbar was taken to Pabna General Hospital for treatment.
In Jamalpur, an elderly man was killed in an accident at Popular intersection of Sarishabari upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Moina Begum, 60, wife of Azizul Haque from Madarganj upazila.
Sarishabari police station Officer-in-Charge Mazedur Rahman said Moina died on the spot when a motorcycle hit her while she was crossing the road.
In Tangail, a college student was killed when a truck hit his motorcycle on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Natiapara area in the district.
The deceased was identified was Anwar Khan, 18, son of Abdur Rashid from Delduar upazila and a student of Korotia Sadat University College in Tangail.
Gorai Highway police station Sub-Inspector Motiur Rahman confirmed news of the incident.
