4 killed in 'gunfights' across Bangladesh


The reported gunfights took place in Cox's Bzazar, Munshuganj and Khulna

Four people have been killed in alleged gunfights in Cox's Bazar, Munshiganj, and Khulna districts.

In Cox's Bazar, two suspected drug dealers were killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Sabrang union of Teknaf upazila, Cox's Bazar on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Najir Dakat, 38, and Adbul Amin, 35.

Four policemen - Sub-Inspector Khairul Alam, constables Rumon, Mong Chen Pru   and Abdus Shukkur  - were injured during the confrontation.

Four guns, 21 bullets, and 10,150 yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.

Teknaf model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. 

The bodies have been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

In a separate incident in Munshiganj, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of RAB.

The incident occurred at Shonarong area under Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj district on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Hossain Sheikh, 50.

One pistol, three bullets, one magazine, one mobile phone, money, and 500 yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.

RAB-11 Narayanganj Deputy Director Maj Ashik Billah confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

In another incident in Khulna, listed criminal Maruf Hossain alias Goru Maruf's dead body was found by police near the city's Kartikkul sand field in Daulatpur area.        

Police also recovered two guns, one bullet, and 54 pieces of yaba from the spot.

Daulatpur police station OC Kazi Mostak Ahmed confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

The body has been sent to Khulna Medical College for autopsy.
