Man accused in 10 cases killed in Munshiganj ‘gunfight’

A person has been killed in a so-called gunfight with the police in Munshiganj. The incident took place in Baraikhali area under Sreenagar upazila around 1:15am on Saturday. The deceased is Md Tajel, 36.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Sreenagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Yunus Ali said: “Tajel was accused in ten cases, including murder. He was on the run.” 

He: “Earlier on Friday, he was arrested from the Monirampur area of Jessore. A police team later took Tajel on a raid to recover illegal narcotics and firearms. 

“A gang of miscreants started firing at the law enforcers, causing police to retaliate.”

The OC said later, police recovered Tajel in an injured condition. He was taken to Sreenagar upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Police said a gun, three bullets, 105 pieces of yaba tablets and three knives were recovered from the scene. During the “gunfight” three policemen were also injured.
