German Ambassador: Germany wants to see democracy flourishing in Bangladesh

He made the comment while speaking to reporters after paying respects to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his mausoleum in Tungipara, Gopalganj

German Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenhollz has said Germany want wants to see democracy flourishing in the country.

He made the comment while speaking to reporters after paying respects to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his mausoleum in Tungipara, Gopalganj on Tuesday night.

The ambassador said: “Germany wants to see Bangladesh practice free democracy, for which a free, fair, peaceful and participatory election is necessary. I hope that every party will participate in the upcoming election. No political parties should remain inactive during the election. However, Germany never believes in violence being the practice of free democracy.” 

“Bangladesh has seen exponential growth in the last ten years and will soon be a middle income country. Germany has been a great development partner and has helped Bangladesh with mitigating climate change, building infrastructure, electronic passports and strengthening good governance,” he added. 

The German ambassador also said: “I have studied the history, culture and heritage of Bangladesh. I have great respect for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and I am honoured to be paying tribute at his memorial.”

After reaching Tungipara, he paid tribute to the father of the nation and signed the guest book at the mausoleum premises. He also offered special prayers for the departed soul of Bangabandhu. 

Leaders of Awami League and its associate organizations were also present during the ambassador’s visit.
