Police has arrested three men over the incident of a secondary school certificate candidate being brutally gang-raped in Tangail.
The perpetrators were apprehended during raids in different areas of the upazila, on Wednesday night.
Later they were sent to Tangail court on Thursday afternoon.
Dhanbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mozibur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that, acting on a tip-off, they conducted raids and arrested three men in connection with the gang-rape of the schoolgirl.
After securing a confession from the arrestees they were sent to Tangail jail on Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the arrest for the rest of the offenders is still on-going.
Earlier, the victim’s father filed a case against 11 men regarding the matter on Wednesday evening.
The heinous act occurred at a student hostel in the Nawab Bari Lichu Bagan area of the Dhanbari upazila on the night of October 27.
According to sources in the police, and the victim’s family, the victim was lured to the hostel with a phone call from an individual promising tips and suggestions for her upcoming exam.
When she went there, she was allegedly gang-raped by 11 men, who took turns all night long.
The following morning, she was released—after being warned not to tell anyone about the incident and being threatened that a video recording of the incident would be released on social media if she let anyone know.
However, the girl came home and immediately told her parents about it.
Meanwhile, a powerful vested group offered the family a large sum of money to stay silent, but the family refused to do so.
Finally, on Wednesday evening, the victim’s father – a retired army officer – was escorted by law enforcement to the police station—where he filed the case.
According to the police, among them seven are students of the Dhanbari Government Nawab Institution High School; three are students of Dhanbari Collegiate Model High School and one, a student of Dhanbari Government College.
Evidences have been collected from the scene and the girl has been sent for medical examination and to the Tangail Medical College Hospital.
