A suspected drug trader has been killed in a "gunfight" with Detective Branch (DB) of Police in sadar upazila of Meherpur.
The incident took place early on Tuesday.
The deceased is Enamul Haque Ena, 42,.
DB police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Obaidur Rahman said they conducted a drive on information that drug dealers were meeting in the Nishchintapur Battala area.
As the criminals opened fire on the law enforcement members, they retaliated, triggering a gunfight, he said.
Later, police found bullet-hit Enamul on the spot. He was taken to Meherpur General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Three policemen were also injured in the shootout
Enamul was accused in eight cases, including murder charges, the DB official said.
