The reason behind the killing of Sumonto Chakma is unclear
An activist from a faction of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) has been shot dead in Khagrachhari’s Dighinala.
The deceased has been identified as Sumonto Chakma.
Police said the incident took place in Merung union parishad’s Moner Manush area on early Friday.
The identities of the assailants and their motives are unclear. But UPDF Ganatantrik Spokesperson Liton Chakma has blamed the rival UPDF faction for the killing.
Dighinala police station’s Officer-in-Charge Uttam Deb said they had sent a police team to the spot.
In August, seven men were killed when assailants opened fire on a rally in Khagrachhari town. Five UPDF activists were among those killed.
The UPDF had blamed the Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) MN Larma faction and the breakaway faction UPDF Ganatantrik for the killings.
