Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Kushtia model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasir Uddin said: “A team of law enforcers raided the Kaburhat area around 2am, on a tip off that two gangs of drug peddlers were engaged in a gunfight there.

“Culprits began firing on the police, forcing them to retaliate. Later, the bullet-riddled body of an unidentified man was found at the scene, while other perpetrators escaped.”

The OC added the man was taken to Kushtia General Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.

Four policemen, including Sub-Inspector Mostafiz, were also injured in the incident.

Daulatpur police station OC Shah Dara Khan said: “Police raided the Badher Bazar area around 3am, on a tip that two gangs of drug peddlers were engaged in a firefight.
