Bus services ceased on the Khagrachhari-Chittagong and Khagrachhari-Rangamati highways on Thursday morning
Transportation workers have begun a bus strike in Khagrachhari, to protest the alleged torture of a transport worker by the police in Hathazari, Chittagong.
Bus services were ceased on the Khagrachhari-Chittagong and Khagrachhari-Rangamati highways on Thursday morning— due to the strike.
Transport owners have also shown their solidarity with the workers.
Long-distance commuters have been most impacted by the sudden halt of bus services.
Police allegedly beat up a transport worker in Hathazari upazila on Wednesday. Transport workers' organizations called on a morning to evening transport strike to protest against the violence and condemn the guilty police.
General Secretary of Khagrachhari Paribahan Malik-Sramik Samannoy Parishad Yunus Miah told the Dhaka Tribune: "All organizations have united to strike in solidarity with the workers of Chittagong union. Therefore, the morning to evening bus strike is ongoing in Khagrachhari."
