A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Pabna.

The deceased is Tipu Sheikh, 45, from Kabirpur village in the sadar upazila. He is accused in eight cases, including drug trafficking.

RAB said two of their members were also injured in the “gunfight.”

Lt Commander Ruhul Amin, the RAB 12 Pabna camp company commander, told the Dhaka Tribune: "Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a drive at the abandoned building of Calico Cotton Mill.

"Sensing the presence of the RAB team, the gang started firing bullets at them, forcing them to strike back."

He said Tipu was critically injured in the incident, while his associates managed to flee the scene.

Later, he was declared dead when taken to Pabna Sadar Hospital.

RAB recovered a foreign-made revolver, five rounds of bullets and 770 yaba tablets from the spot.
