A microbus lost control and hit a motorcycle and a van in Gopalganj, killing two people and injuring five of its own passengers.
The accident took place on Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kashiani upazila near Ratail Paschimpara Dhushar Bridge.
Among the deceased is Nurul Islam, 40, the manager of a local office of the NGO Jagroni Chakra Foundation. He is the son of Md Abdul Morol, resident of Jessore. Another deceased is the van driver Rakib Sheikh, 45, son of Nur Mohammad, from Dhankora village in Kashiani.
Kashiani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Azizur Rahman said the vehicle belonged to Advocate Mostafa Kabir of Rajbari, who travelled on Friday morning with his family members to Tungipara. They left for Rajbari from Tungipara that afternoon.
The microbus lost control near the Dhushor Bridge and hit an oncoming motorcycle, he said. The motorcycle rider lost control and fell in a nearby pit. Then the microbus along with a van fell in a nearby ditch.
The incident left the motorcycle rider dead. The van driver was recovered and brought to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead. OC Azizrur said the injured Mostafa Kabir and the four other members of his family were admitted to the hospital. Later in the afternoon they were transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Bodies of the deceased were recovered and sent to Gopalganj General Hospital morgue, he added.
