Police have arrested two people in this regard
A group of thugs attacked a number of worshippers at a temple in the Ghaghorkanda village of the Kotalipara upazila following the Puja ritual of immersion in Gopalganj on Friday night.
A worshipper at the temple, Krishna Kanta Basu, filed a case in this regard against eight men – Hridoy Dutta, 28, Dipto Dey, 25, Raju Mandal, 22, Bhaskar Saha, 25, Shaon Poddar, 25, Anjan Poddar, 23, Chanchal Saha, 23, and Anup Saha, 28.
Plaintiff Krishna Kanta Basu said: “After immersing the idols as per ritual, we worshippers were heading back home when a bunch of drunken thugs began making comments about the women and girls in our midst. They then followed us to the temple, and eventually attacked us and the girls.”
Kotalipara police station Officer-in-Charge Md Kamrul Faruq said: “When we heard about the unrest, I sent officers to the location and they arrested Hridoy Dutta and Dipto Dey. However, the others managed to get away. A case has been filed in this regard, and the culprits will be brought to book.”
