Home minister: Hindu community has nothing to fear

The Hindu community has been celebrating Durga Puja, the largest religious festival for the community, setting up more than 3,000 puja mandaps across the country

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said members of law enforcement agencies have been demolishing militants' dens one after another as the people of the country do not give them shelter or cover.

The minister conveyed the message on Wednesday after visiting Ramna Kalimondir puja mandap in the city in the evening. The Hindu community has been celebrating Durga Puja, the largest religious festival for the community, setting up more than 3,000 puja mandaps across the country.

Kamal said there is no safe shelter for militants as members of law enforcement agencies have been destroying their dens and even, their latest den in Narshingdi has also been destroyed with two female militants surrendering to the police.

Encouraging the Hindu Community to celebrate without any fear, he said: "You (Hindu community) have nothing to fear as the people of the country as well as its administration are beside you. We hope you will celebrate the festival nicely and peacefully in its last two days," he said.

Senior police officers and leaders of the Hindu community were present.
