The Adivasi Chhatra Parishad took out a procession from the university's Kajla Gate in the morning
Adivasi Chhatra Parishad leaders and activists have blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway demanding restoration of 5% quota reserved for ethnic minorities in the first and second-class government jobs.
They took position on the highway near main gate of Rajshahi University from 10am to 11am on Saturday, blocking traffic on both sides of the road.
The protesters also took out a procession from the university's Kajla Gate around 9am. Later, they burned tires and occupied the road.
"The quota for the ethnic minorities must be reinstated. This is not the time to revoke the quotas," Adivasi Chhatra Parishad central President Nokul Pahan told the Dhaka Tribune.
Meanwhile, physically-challenged students have held a human chain near the university's main gate around noon demanding restoration of their quota in government jobs.
