Police are suspecting Marufa was murdered, as her flat was locked from the inside, and evidences of blunt trauma to the head were found
The dead bodies of a newborn and a female medical officer have been recovered from the Barisal town.
Officer In-charge of the Kauniya branch of the Barisal Metropolitan Police Selim Reza said, the body of a newborn boy was recovered from a canal in the Polashpur no 8 area of Barisal town around 2:30am on Sunday.
The body has been sent to the Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he said. The boy can be as young as a day old, police suspect.
Meanwhile, the body of medical officer Marufa Akhter, 41, was recovered from a house on the Lutfur Rahman Road on Sunday, said Abdur Rahman Mukul, officer in-charge of the Airport branch of the Barisal Metropolitan Police.
Deceased Marufa was the community deputy assistant medical officer of the Health Department.
Her body has been sent to Shebachim Hospital in Barisal for autopsy.
Arvind Biswas, second officer of the Airport branch said, around 2:45pm on Sunday, police found Marufa's body from the third floor of the Sharif Manzil apartment on Lutfor Rahman Road.
Police are suspecting Marufa was murdered, as her flat was locked from the inside, and evidences of blunt trauma to the head were found.
Marufa's husband Zahirul Haider Chowdhury works for an NGO in Dhaka. She had been staying at her flat for the past seven years.
