2 workers die in septic tank accident in Madaripur

Both workers were working in an under-construction building at Pakdi area around 11am on Saturday

Two construction workers have died in a septic tank cleaning accident in an under-construction building in Madaripur, Pakdi area at around 11am on Saturday.

According to the police sources, the property in belongs to Habibur Rahman Molla on which his son-in-law Zakir Hossain has been constructing a two-storied building.

The deceased were identified as Sirajul Matabber, 29, son of Anis Matabbar from Chapatali village in Mostafapur union and Sumon Matabber, 22, son of  Shah Alam Matabbar from Bhadrokhola village in Ghatmajhi union.

Sirajul had went inside the septic tank at the under-construction building in the morning to clean it. Later, Sumon went in when Sirajul did not respond.

The locals called the fire service after receiving no response from the two workers.

Madaripur fire service station officer Nitya Gopal Sarker told the Dhaka Tribune: “after getting the information about the trapped workers, we rushed to the spot where the workers were found injured in the septic tank.” 

The two workers were taken to the Madaripur Sadar Hospital, where they were declared dead by the on duty doctor Md Riaz Mahmud. 

Madaripur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Hassan told the Dhaka Tribune: “The two workers were died in an accident while cleaning the septic tank of an under-construction building in the Pakdali area of the city.”

 The police have started the process of filing a case in this regard.
