A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Mirkadim, in sadar upazila of Munshiganj district.

The “gunfight” took place early on Wednesday.

The deceased is Malek Abdul, 45, son of Shawkat Ali Bepari from Dakkhin Islampur.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in the area around 3:30am, said Assistant director of RAB 11 Muhitul Islam.

Upon spotting the elite force, four to five people opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back.

At one stage, the elite force members found Malek with bullet wounds. He was taken to Munshiganj General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Malek was wanted in 11 cases filed with different police stations, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station.

The RAB members also recovered: one pistol, one magazine, three bullets, Tk2,500 in cash, and 800 yaba pills from the spot.
