Shawkat Ali was accused in 13 cases, says RAB

A man, described by RAB as a drug dealer and robbery gang leader, has been killed in an alleged gunfight with the elite force in Rangpur city.

RAB identified the man as Shawkat Ali Ghughu and said he was accused in 13 drug and robbery-related cases.

The gunfight took place in Radhakrishnapur in the early hours of Friday, said RAB 13 media officer ASP Khandker Golam Mortuza.

He said a RAB team raided the area after being tipped-off about drug dealing.

“As soon as our team reached the site, the drug dealers fired on us, triggering a skirmish,” he said.

Shawkat’s body was recovered from the site after the ‘gunfight’. A foreign-made pistol, three bullets, and a “huge amount of drugs” were seized from the spot, said RAB.
