Now sailors can obtain their certificates from anywhere around the world
The Shipping Department has made survey certificates for water vessels available via an online application.
A Shipping Ministry press release announced, on Tuesday, that they have been working to provide rapid and easy service delivery to implement "Digital Bangladesh".
All the formerly in-person services will be available online—once the service is operational and the vessel owners have undergone an internal vessel survey.
The owners will be able to register through the Shipping Department website: http://dos.gov.bd/ by clicking on "Online Application".
The Shipping Department has followed the government’s initiative to create a "Digital Bangladesh." It provides online services to people, accepts other online forms and fees, provides digital competency certificates, and uses online verification.
Due to this, sailors on ships can verify their certificates from anywhere around the world, so sailors no-longer need to rush at various harbors and airports.
Most of the online services launched by the Shipping Ministry are connected to international shipping.
The online services related to internal shipping from the Shipping Department include: the survey application for vessels, registration applications, application for a change in ownership, voyage licences, etc.
In the prior system, the in-person method, the vessel owner had to collect prescribed forms for internal ship surveys and fill them out. After paying fees at various offices, the documents were submitted to the office and then presented during vessel inspection.
The Shipping Department, under the Shipping Ministry, will launch the "Software for Inland Ship Management System" online service program, at BIWTA auditorium, on Wednesday. It will be inaugurated by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan.
Shipping Ministry Secretary Md Abdus Samad will be the evening’s guest of honour and the event will be presided over by Shipping Department's Director General Commodore Syed Ariful Islam.
