The incidents took place in Cox’s Bazar, Thakurgaon and Gopalganj
Nine people have been killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Cox's Bazar, Thakurgaon and Gopalganj.
In Cox’s Bazar, seven on them died in a head-on collision between a human haulier and a bus on Cox's Bazar-Chittagong Highway in Harbang union’s Baraitola area under Chakaria upazila around 11am on Tuesday.
Five others were also injured in the incident, said Chakaria police station OC Md Bakhtiar Uddin.
The deceased were identified as human haulier driver Khayer Ahmed, 40, Jahir Ahmed, 32, Joytun Aktar, 30, Shafikul Kader Tushar, 20, Rokeya Begum, 27, Basanti Sikdar, 65, Abul Kashem, 27.
OC Bakhtiar said most of the victims – both deceased and injured – were passengers of the human haulier.
“Four of them were declared dead upon arrival at Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. Two others died on their way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and another at Chakaria’s Unique Hospital while undergoing treatment,” he added.
He said police later impounded both damaged vehicles, but could not detain the bus driver and his assistant as they fled the scene right away.
In Thakurgaon, a motorcycle rider was killed and two others injured after their two-wheeler collided head-on with pickup van on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh Highway in Telipara area on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mofazzal Hossain, Sadar police station OC Abdul Latif said.
He said Mofazzal had died on the spot after the crash.
The injured – Fazlul Karim and Shirin Akhter – were admitted to Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital. Of them, Fazlul is in critical condition.
Meanwhile, in Gopalganj, a third-grader was killed after being run over by a microbus on Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Daserhat area under Muksudpur upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
Kinjar Roy, 12, who lived with his family in that area, had died on the spot, said locals and Muksudpur police OC Mostafa Kamal Pasha.
Mostafa said the schoolboy was crossing the road when the microbus ran over and fled right away. He said police were trying to find the vehicle and catch the driver.
