In two incidents, a youth and housewife hanged themselves on Monday morning in Savar
September 10 is observed as World Suicide Prevention Day. Just like the rest of the world, Bangladesh is hosting a number of activities to raise awareness of the day. Despite this, two individuals have committed suicide on the observance day.
Police recovered the body of a young man who hanged himself in his room. He took his life at Hani Dewan's house in Sarker Market area in Ashulia, Savar on Monday morning.
According to police and the deceased's family, the youth Hasan Imam had been living with his wife in Dewan's house for the last four months. On Sunday, the landlord demanded the payment of four-month overdue rent.
The two fought over the issue, and the landlord hurled abusive words at Imam. Later, unable to handle the embarrassment, Imam hanged himself in his room at Sunday midnight.
Police later recovered Imam's body and brought it to the police station on Monday.
In a separate incident in Jaleshwar neighbourhood, of Savar municipality area, police recovered a 15-year-old housewife's body, from her house, on Monday morning.
Family members of Munni Khatun, the housewife, informed police after discovering Munni's hanging corpse in her room.
Police suspect that she committed suicide due to a family conflict. Munni was the wife of Habibullah, who hails from Kutigram in Ataikula thana of Pabna.
Abdul Awal, officer in-charge of Savar Model police station said the deceased's bodies have been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsies. Two separate cases will be lodged in the Savar and Ashulia police stations, he further said.
